When pirates take the helm!

“Right, ok, this distillery is the family jewels, but I had no intention of just riding Dad’s wave. I love making the Amer, but the pirate in me always dreamt of new horizons. So the Gervin 2.0 is a breath of light, daring air that has come along and rocked the boat that had been anchored to its traditions. Still waving the flag for Belgium, and that annoying tendency to disembark… where we’re least expecting it. That’s what the Gervin treasure map has been all about, since 1976!”

Vincent Stiévenart – buccaneer distiller

Drache Nationale

Nobody complains when this Drache Nationale starts pouring down (“drache” is Belgian French for downpour)!
Blackcurrant, lemon, strawberry: taste it, it’s the black yellow and red of the Belgian flag in a glass! A refreshing summer rain, with the sweetness of the fruit balanced by the acidic lemon. This festive aperitif made with Vin Doux Naturel can be enjoyed neat or in a Kir, or to add a touch of “Belgitude” to your cocktails. The best way to drink it? With friends, of course (and not just on 21 July, Belgian National Day)…

Rasta Spirit

Ah man, I’ve got something new that will straighten your dreadlocks: Zion, it isn’t paradise! It’s much more accessible than that, it’s an aperitif, and it’s called Rasta Spirit… In Baugnies, in the (large) suburb of Kingston, there’s a young white guy who makes me forget about Ganja. Now I run on apple and lime. Less smoke and more fruit: at last man, the green transition is cool!

Sale Gosse

This Sale Gosse (French for “brat”) is anything but a punishment for your palate! No bad seed here, it’s all good: blackcurrant (for once we’ve managed to get some fruit inside!) and a (little) touch of alcohol. Despite its feisty character, Sale Gosse can be left alone without supervision, but also knows how to be sociable when required: it gets on well with ice cubes, or even a dry or sparkling white wine… Plenty to soften its hard edges, and make it a socially acceptable choice for everyone! And if you want to calm it down: drown it in a sorbet!

P'tite peste

Looking like butter wouldn’t melt, the other enfant terrible in the Gervin 2.0 family is actually a real Petite Peste (“little pest”)! Don’t be fooled by its angelic appearance and honey-sweet violet aromas: they are trying to fool you. This is no sweetie. Its alcohol content of 14.5% and lemony acidic notes will soon remind you of what this really is. Something you’ll love to hate…

Black Pear

Ordinary seaman, more or less, its name might well make you think of pirates, the Caribbean, and a certain curse… But Black Pear isn’t a ship but a treasure, liquid gold produced thanks to the fusion of delicious Conference pears and Cognac. The feeling of biting into a juicy pear will capsize your heart, while the 35% alcohol content will let the guns do the talking. All aboard!

El lapin qui braie

Now in Tournai, at the beginning of January, l’ceu qui n’a pos d’Gervin n’a rien (a play on an expression meaning “if you don’t have Gervin, you have nothing”)! Around the time of Lost Monday, there’s nothing tastier than a glass of El lapin qui braie (literally “the crying rabbit”) to start off the traditional celebrations. This aperitif is made with dessert wine and boasts apple and walnut aromas (two of the ingredients of a Tournai salad). Néness, the crying rabbit, now has every reason to celebrate: ch’t’ein grand honneur, pou ein lapin qu’d’êt’mingé en buvant du Gervin (literally “what an honour for a rabbit to be eaten while drinking Gervin”)!

Available from mid-December to late January in some outlets.

El rototo du lapin

Gervin has put a rabbit back in the bottle! And thanks to him, since 2015, the menu on Betrayal Monday has included an aperitif (El lapin qui braie, of course!), three traditional dishes, a “galette”… as well as a liqueur. Néness the rabbit has a weakness for plums, and it is this fruit that gives the liqueur (with an alcohol content of 22%) its dark ruby hues and sweet flavours that ladies and gentlemen will all appreciate.

Available from mid-December to late January in some outlets.
